Thoughts on America.

"The Thing About America"

A couple of years ago I took a family trip around the West Coast of America, and so here I am, finally articulating my thoughts on this not-so-long-established nation.

The first thing I want to mention is the history, the USA may appear as a well-established, historical country, but trust me, that couldn't be further from the truth. Europeans didn't even start developing the West until around 1840 which, when compared to, say, British history, isn't a long time ago at all. See, the truth is, the real history of America began centuries before the cowboys, the mormons, even before the Europeans. It began with the Native Americans. And that is what I find so fascinating about this Nation, it is founded on the belief of right, and establishment, it has a very 'we're here to stay' sort of vibe, yet at the same time so did the original inhabitants who, as you probably know, were forced to abandon their homes,  and furthermore, their way of life. It is very difficult to capture even a glimpse of history at the time without it being a pre-constructed conception created as a 'tourist trap'. You can't help but feel that everything you see is destruction hidden by celebration.

In the end, the way in which you perceive the US all depends on how you interpret their history and chose to witness the vile acts that founded this "Great Nation of Freedom".

Something else that I think is often overlooked about America is that it is incredibly beautiful. I feel as though the media blinds us with images of a Nation of greed and commercialism, rather than the true natural beauty that is around almost every corner. From rocky mountains and rolling hills, to barren deserts and towering canyons that make you feel like nothing but a mere ant, America has it all.

Thanks for letting me explore you, America, 'twas a joy.
